What we heard
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Station Road Improvements consultation. The project received strong support for safer crossings, better lighting and clearer routes between the station, high street and riverside path.
Key themes
- Safer pedestrian crossings near the station entrance were the highest priority.
- Residents supported more cycle parking, but asked for it to avoid narrowing footways.
- Businesses wanted construction phasing to protect trading during peak periods.
- Several comments asked for more seating, planting and wayfinding.
What changed
The design team has widened the proposed crossing outside the station, moved cycle parking away from the busiest shopfronts, added extra benches and introduced a clearer servicing plan for businesses.
What happens next
The revised scheme will be reported to the council transport committee before detailed design. The Statement of Community Involvement summarises the consultation activity, responses and design changes.
